Previously known as Irbyville, Buckhead became a country vacation spot for the wealthy from Atlanta in the late 1800s. Fast forward to a recent report from Forbes Magazine saying Buckhead is home to the ninth-wealthiest zip code in the nation (30327) and is referred to as the “Beverly Hills of the South”. The area’s real estate market is one of the most expensive in the state of Georgia with an average home value in August of 2011 of approximately $581,900 according to Zillow.

While much of west and north Buckhead is made up of single-family homes on lush wooded lots, the Peachtree Road corridor is home to high-rise residents and offices. Tower Place opened in 1974. Park Place and Atlanta Plaza in 1986 and Park Avenue Condominiums in 2000. An increase in development followed including Sovereign and Mansion on Peachtree in late 2008. Currently, Buckhead has over 50 high-rise buildings home to fashionable residents and corporate elite.
